If you intend to work within the virtual machine, you should change the default keyboard layout. However, DBeaver provides decent SQL editing functionality (syntax highlighting and autocompletion to some extent, a wizard for SELECT statements, etc.) and is therefore sufficient to solve the upcoming SQL tasks.Īnother database tool used by some students in the past semesters was RazorSQL, but it is not freely available and therefore not shipped by our VM.Īdjust the keyboard layout to your needs ⤴ Basically, you are free to use any database administration tool that is able to handle DB2 connections (after all, most of these DB tools connect to the DB via JDBC/ODBC and are therefore comparable in their features). The following chapter will guide you through the first steps of connecting to your DB2 database in DBeaver, an Eclipse-based SQL editing tool.
If you require root privileges on your VM (for example, to install new software or change global files), the user credentials for the VM user are:
The VM is configured so that it does not ask for username and password during the startup procedure. A new window (representing the screen of your virtual computer) opens and the VM is booted. Select this VM and click on the large green arrow marked "Start". The procedure for importing the virtual disk image takes a while, just be patient.Īfter you have imported the VM image, you should have an entry for it on the left side of the window. Otherwise, continue by clicking "Import". If you have more resources than a CPU core and 1024 MB of RAM available, you can increase these values here. The following form shows the hardware settings we have chosen for our virtual image. The opening dialog provides a "Choose a virtual applicance file to import." icon that allows you to select the VM image on your file system. You can find our VM image at the following URL:Īfter you have started VirtualBox, select "File" from the menu bar and click "Import Appliance.". Leave the default settings untouched unless you know what you are doing. Under Windows, the downloaded installer will guide you through the installation procedure. The installation instructions depend heavily on the platform you are using.
The second download on this page (VirtualBox Oracle VM VirtualBox Extension Pack) is not required to run our image. It is available for all major platforms (Windows, Mac, Linux and Solaris). Adjust the keyboard layout to your needsĪll you need to run the image is Oracle's VirtualBox, an open source virtualization software. To make it as easy as possible for you to get started with the practical course, we have prepared a virtual machine image with useful software and connection scripts that allows you to start working with DB2 within minutes of preparation. I still don't know why I should use autossh instead of the SSH tunnel tab in DBeaver though.DB Project / DB Project Virtual Machine Image DB Project Virtual Machine Image Go back to DBeaver, try to connect, that should work. Warning: Permanently added 'ssh_server_hostname,ssh_server_ip' (ECDSA) to the list of known hosts. Go to the shell and run the command: ssh -f -N -L 5432:localhost:5432 will output: The authenticity of host 'ssh_server_hostname (ssh_server_ip)' can't be established.ĮCDSA key fingerprint is 29:13:b5:cb:99:21:b2:18:f1:11:aa:12:54:c2:88:9a.Īre you sure you want to continue connecting (yes/no)? yes Run in the shell sudo apt-get install -y autosshĪdd the shell command in your connection in DBeaver: autossh -f -N -L 5432:localhost:5432 that point if you try to connect you'll have the same : auth fail error message.
It looks like the issue is around the fact that the authenticity of the SSH server hadn't been verified beforehand, and DBweaver and unable to cascade the correct error message (e.g., Host key verification failed.) and instead misleadingly blames some authentication error. I tried DBweaver on Kubuntu and had the same issue.
